I am a full-time freelance translator, based in Edinburgh, with over 20 years of experience. As a qualified MITI – a full member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting – I work for clients throughout Europe (UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy) using my main language combination, Italian into English.
My work focuses primarily on my own areas of specialisation, namely history, architecture, art history and the humanities in general. As an academic myself, I particularly enjoy working on the translation of academic papers – whether for journals or conferences – as well as longer works. I have translated a variety of non-fiction books, working with publishers such as Birkhäuser Verlag (Basel–Berlin), a publisher specialising in architecture, Cambridge University Press and Lars-Muller (Basel), among others. I have included some of my published translations here.
My latest translations are listed under the “Recent Works” tab, or click here.
The Translators Association of the Society of Authors, of which I am a member, provides support for literary translators and holds regular workshops at the Edinburgh Book Festival. The TA has close links with the British Centre for Literary Translation at the University of East Anglia – which, among other activities, publishes an excellent journal, In Other Words. Here in Scotland, the Scottish ITI network is also a source of excellent CPD opportunities, as well as friendly company!
As a MITI I am authorised to provide certified translations from Italian and French into English. This is required, for example, by applicants to the University of Edinburgh.
