Lucinda Byatt – Translation and Editing

I am a full-time freelance translator and editor, based in Edinburgh, with over 20 years of translation and editing experience. I qualified as a MITI, member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting in 2007, having been an associate for many years. I enjoy belonging to the Scottish ITI network which offers excellent opportunities for CPD, as well as friendly company!

I also belong to the Translators Association of the Society of Authors, but unfortunately rarely make it to the meetings which tend to be London based.

As a commercial translator I work for various clients throughout Europe (UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy) and my main language combination is Italian into English, and less frequently also French to English.

My commercial work is focused on a range of fields, primarily finance, economics, law, business and corporate publications, general humanities, tourism and the environment

I have also translated a variety of non-fiction books on history, art and architecture, working with publishers like Birkhäuser Verlag (Basel–Berlin), a publisher specialising in architecture, Cambridge University Press and De Luca Editori d’Arte (Rome), among others.  I have included a full list of published translations here.

Wearing my editing hat, I am an associate of SfEP, and in 2006 I updated my qualifications by completing the Copy-editing distance learning course. I have worked regularly as a copy-editor and proofreader with Birkhäuser Verlag (since 1998), and also with Lars Müller and Dunedin Academic Press. In particular, for the latter, I have copy-edited five of books in the Understanding Religion series.

I also have extensive experience of EFL editing, namely copy-editing work that has been written by non-native English speakers.
